Woke up on a vacation…

Last night I had my bedroom window open. There was a gentle breeze blowing that soothed me to sleep, as did the gentle song my wind chime was singing. As an added bonus, it woke me with a new song this morning.

Even though it was my own bedroom at home, the gentle breeze and the wind song of my chime gave me the sensation of waking up while on vacation. It was only the alarm clock that I had forgotten to turn off that broke the illusion of being on vacation.

Bed and Breakfast hot spot

Once I open my bed and breakfast bird house, I need traffic with a well placed bird feeder. I call it my Flying Finch Feeder because the finches swoop in and take it over. That is, until a couple larger birds do an aggressive fly-by and the finches vacate in a hurry. It’s a little backyard entertainment that’s always a little different everyday. If you are into hummingbirds, wrens, robins or whatnots, the place to find a great variety of bird feeders at affordable prices is at our main website. Come visit us on our Wind Song Wind Chimes Facebook Fanpages.  If you ‘like’ our ‘Fans Only’ page, we’ll reward you with a great promo code to use on our site.

Let’s find us a nice place to relax and eat…

All the time, there is variety of chirps coming from the new Bed and Breakfast Bird House hanging from my oak tree. Sure, I see some crows hanging around my apple tree and a couple of wrens pecking and cleaning each other on my wall, but I’m always interested to see who’s moved in and made the bird house all theirs. I’m not sure yet, it could be bluebirds according to my kids and robins according to my wife. The main thing is, it’s such nice sounds to wake up to in the morning. Maybe, it’s a couple of song birds of a different feather, I just won’t know till I get my own look. I really like my bird house, but there are many to choose from where I got mine!

For Baby…

There is a really pretty John Denver song called, “For Baby”.  In the chorus the words say,

“The wind will whisper your name to me.  Little birds will sing along in time.

Trees will bow down when we walk by and morning bells will chime.”

Whenever I hear a wind chime, I think of that song.  But for me, it seems more like God walking by.  I like to believe I can feel God’s presence all around me, and when I hear the wind chime, it’s almost like hearing His presence as well.

I guess it is natural that wind chimes have a healing effect on people.  Maybe hearing God in them is another way they can help heal.

Was it all just a bad dream?

Back in the 60’s, it would snow more often than it seems to now.  We would have snow storms that would amount to about a foot of snow every now and then and we kids loved playing in it.

One night, my best friend and I took our sleds out to where a house was being built. There were large piles of dirt next to the deep hole that was to be the basement of the new house.  Great hills for sledding down, we thought.

I climbed up first and slid down the hill.  My friend climbed up and began her descent.  Suddenly the front of her sled hit something and stopped, tossing her into the air.  It was like watching an Olympic diver fly through the air in a swan dive.

She flew, catapulted off the sled with her arms stretched straight out in front of her and landed with a thud on the ground at the bottom of the hill, still outstretched, and just in front of the huge hole in the ground.  It was almost in slow motion like a dream.

It was so funny, but scary at the same time.  She could have been badly injured.
She moaned and I ran over and asked her if she was alright?

She was okay but we decided to call it a night and go home where it was safe and warm.  We were thankful that she hadn’t flown far enough to have ended up in the basement.  That would have been quite a drop!

Grandma’s Dreams

I remember, when I was young, my grandmother would tell us stories of people from way back when she was a very young girl.  We loved to hear her tell of her sisters and her mother and father, (my great-grandparents that I never really knew).

She told us about a Native American woman who had married her father’s brother, her uncle, and how she would make dreamcatchers by hand to give to family members as gifts.  She told of how creative this Indian woman was and how much the family had learned from her.

Sadly, we never got to learn many of the things our grandmother could have taught us.   Dreamcatchers are really awesome and it would have been great to have learned how a real Native American made them.  But we were kids and didn’t want to stay in one place long enough to learn things that were done while being still.

My grandmother tried to teach us how to knit but I never could get the hang of it.

Now I wish I had learned many of the things she tried to teach us.  But at least I still have the memories of my grandmother.  I will always treasure them.

Was it a dreamcatcher?

We always had lots of different species of birds in our back yard.  My little niece was trying to learn the names of some of them.  She was doing very well considering she was only 5.  One day she was naming all the birds she saw and was getting most of them correct.  Then she announced, “Look, a Brown Crested Dreamcatcher”!

She couldn’t understand why we were all laughing.

She had mixed the words, dreamcatcher with flycatcher.  I know birds catch flies and other insects.  But ever since then, in our family, birds are believed to also catch dreams.

My new Puppy….

I always dreamed of having my own dog.  I wanted a Collie.  My father had always said we could have another dog if we could find a Collie for free.

So, I remembered his words and many years later, I had a job and an income and I saw an ad in the papers for Collie puppies.

Of course, they were not puppies with AKC papers but they were 100% Collies.

And if I paid for the puppy, it would be free as far as my Dad was concerned.

I took along a couple of friends and off we drove to Maryland.  After getting lost a few times, we found the place where I finally got my beautiful puppy.

He was an ornery little dog and never learned how to heel.  But I will always treasure the memories of watching him as he would run with the wind blowing through his long hair, flashing golden in the sun.

Small Town Chime…

In the little town where we lived, there was a church about one block from our house.

It would chime every day at noon and every evening at 6 p.m.

We would often stop and listen to the old familiar hymns as they rang through the neighborhood.  Now I have a Cathedral Wind Chime that reminds me of those days.

It was the 1960’s and a much simpler time.  I miss the quiet little country town and the warmth of family and home that was our little corner of the world.
